Chronic Pain Basics
More than half of Americans live with chronic or recurrent pain, interfering with their activities, mood, and overall enjoyment of life.
While there has been a growing body of research on pain medication and management — offering both pharmaceutical and natural pain relief – few health professionals are equipped to offer comprehensive guidance through the maze of Eastern and Western resources now available to those who suffer from chronic pain.
In addition, few health professionals have been trained to listen adequately and respond appropriately to the needs of those in chronic pain - leading to an unintentional exacerbation of their problems.
Dancing with Pain® Basics
Based on the real, day-to-day struggles of those in pain, Dancing with Pain® offers a pioneering methodology for navigating through the physical, emotional, and spiritual elements of dealing with chronic pain.
Following a hit-and-run, head-on car collision in 1997, Loolwa Khazzoom suffered from chronic pain for nearly a decade — spinning through a confusing maze of Eastern and Western medicine, with seemingly no way out.
In 2005, she discovered dance as a primary modality of healing her body, then went on to develop dance as a metaphor for navigating through the spiritual, emotional, and physical elements of living with - and transcending - chronic pain.
A journalist by profession, Khazzoom is now running a chronic pain blog based on her experience, as well as leading programs for chronic pain patients and bodyworkers throughout the country.
