Dance for Natural Pain Relief

After writing the blog post about my pain levels being jacked, I reflected on why I haven’t been dancing recently.  One reason, I realized, is that my music is distributed among two different computers and four different hard drives, following a number of computer crashes over the years.

The computer that is in my dancing space is filled to capacity, so I’ve listened to the same damn songs over and over again. In other words, I haven’t been dancing partly because I’m bored out of my mind.

So I scrounged through my old CD collection, uploaded songs onto my office computer, cranked up the volume, and danced alongside my printer, books, office supplies, filing cabinets, music equipment, and other miscellaneous contraptions.

I started off slowly, barely able to move, until the magic happened — the music took over my body. I began jumping, leaping, twirling. I danced for two full hours!

Then, after sitting down to a meal, I put on my biking gear and biked 15 miles. All this after having been pretty damn inactive since my move. (On my way back, it took me 10 minutes to bike four freakin’ blocks, because I was so exhausted, but I made it home.)

I do not cease to be amazed by the power of dance for natural pain relief.
