Thanks to Allison Jacobs for letting me share her story of trying out the Dancing with Pain® approach to healing chronic pain. Allison and I have never met, but we’ve been following each other in Twitter land for several months.
Loolwa is absolutely onto something. Who knew dancing and pain could even get along in the same sentence? Well I haven’t gotten far, but what I did try was so much fun! I have severe Chronic Pelvic Pain, and the word exercise just freaks me out to even say. But I’ve found that with slow, gentle movements, my pain can sometimes decrease.
Well I love dancing, and Loolwa has mentioned dancing in bed quite a few times. To be honest, I thought I might feel silly putting on music and wiggling around in the sheets to the beat of the song. But tonight something came over me and I tried it. I tried it! And it was a blast!!! No one was watching, no one was judging. Just me, feeling the music, swinging my hips and tapping my toes. It was easy and it didn’t hurt.
Hooray! It may not be a giant leap, but hey, little steps will get you there just the same. Wonder what I’ll get the courage to do next! Thank you so much for inspiring me, Loolwa.
