Dancing with Pain is back in action! We’re launching a series of classes at Healing Pathways Medical Clinic — a totally awesome integrative medicine clinic that has a yoga studio (where we’ll be dancing), psychotherapy, massage therapy, and all kinds of other cool stuff, all under one roof! Now that’s what we’re talking about! The class series will launch with a two-hour workshop on August 28. Here are details and online registration for you!
Dance for Natural Pain Relief
Huh? Wha? Dance for natural pain relief? Isn’t dance, well, the opposite of what we want to do when we’re in pain? Actually, scientific research indicates that movement is one of the best things you can do to relieve pain without the use of drugs. And dance is, well, fun!
In this safe movement class for people in pain, you will learn how to comfortably dance from the spaces in your body that feel good, no matter where or how small, even if just in your imagination; you will fill these areas with powerful, transformative, and healing energy; and you will use dance as a tool for dialoguing with and softening pain.
This technique is something you can do at home, even in the comfort of your bed, once you learn the basics. (So the next time you get a pain flare, you just might not have to run to doctors!) The experience of this class will help you stop saying, “I can’t,” and instead ask, “How can I?” The class will be taught by method founder Loolwa Khazzoom, who six years ago was bedridden, barely able to walk from the couch to the bathroom, and who today leads a very active (biking, hiking, swimming, camping, and of course dancing) and overall pain-free life.
Informal trials have indicated that this method is safe for people with a diverse range of pain-related conditions and that it has a 96% rate of efficacy in reducing or eliminating pain. To view the method in action, check out this ABC News clip about it .
In addition to teaching the method, this event will provide time for socializing with other people who live with pain but refuse to let it become the CEO of their lives. We’ll start off by getting to know each other and sharing a little bit about our stories, and at the end, we’ll have time to chat, swap pain management resources, and exchange contact information.
To ensure the safety of all participants, SPACE IS LIMITED to 15 people total, on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is strongly advised that you register with payment, to save your spot.
Two sliding scale rates are available for low income individuals who otherwise cannot attend. These will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis by contacting Loolwa through our contact page.
The venue is wheelchair accessible; the floor is padded; and the studio has yoga mats and cushions. Wear clothing that is very comfortable for movement, and you might want to wear layers in case you get cold or hot during class.
