I had some anxiety about staying at the InterContinental, the hotel where United Airlines put me up, because I know what to expect at the Marriott and don’t like to be taken by surprise by things that don’t work for my body at other hotels. As it turns out, the InterContinental is even swankier. I am totally loving my room, and I’ve got everything I need.
The staff had quite an ordeal finding me a foam pillow, but they did manage to do so. In addition, though the heat was turned off for the summer, they lit the boiler just for little old me, so that I could crank up my heat to 85 degrees (just to warm it up, because it was super cold when I walked in). And to top it all off, they had a gift shop that was still open when I got in at 10:45 pm. I was able to buy a t-shirt, shorts, and socks to sleep in, and since there is no dressing room in the gift shop, I’m assuming they were never tried on before.
So I got myself an almost-free tuna sandwich and fruit plate ($15 compliments of United), kicked up my feet, watched TV, and enjoyed my evening, instead of suffering with a planeful of other miserable people in the gate, waiting for my flight home. Tomorrow I’ll be all perky and refreshed and go home in style, awake enough to drive back to my apartment safely.
Thanks United Airlines!
