After a night of hell, in which I barely slept becuase my vagina was burning and felt as if it were going to rip open, I was able to see a nurse practitioner. She did what she called an old-school vaginal swab — gathering bacteria samples from vaginal discharge, then examining it under a microscope. She came back and announced that, in essence, bacteria had overtaken my vagina. Apparently I’ve got some kind of civil strife going on down there.
The nurse practitioner prescribed two medications for me — an antibiotic to treat the general bacteria masses and a pill to treat yeast infection. So the end of the day, I’m thrilled and delighted that I continued pursuing being seen by a specialist. I got properly diagnosed and properly medicated.
