Natural Pain Relief Methods Can Lower Your Dependency on Medications with Side Effects

Remember when Vioxx was hauled off the market? Me too. Man was I pissed! That drug was what I reached for instead of a shotgun to the head. Took the damn edge off. And to be honest, despite the deaths it caused, I would have kept on taking it, had they not ripped it from the shelves. Fortunately, natural pain relief methods can lower your dependency on medications with side effects. In my case, I haven’t taken a pain Rx for so many years that I’ve lost count.

In 2005, I discovered that I could self-heal through dance – which is when I really got off the pharma crutch. But even before that, I was managing my pain through herbal supplements, anti-inflammatory foods, and as much physical movement as possible – swimming, biking, yoga, you name it. So while I did take the occasional Vioxx or Tylenol Codeine (available over the counter in Israel, where I lived at the time, which was too cool!), it was only on occasion, when all my other remedies failed.

I’m pleased to see that there is less conflict today between conventional medicine and complementary/alternative medicine camps, because in my mind, they are not mutually exclusive. Natural pain relief methods nicely complement other pain relief regimens we’re already doing – assuming there are no contraindications with the meds we’re taking, mind you (always check that out). So whatever natural pain relief methods you choose, I highly recommend that you explore how you can turn on your inner pharmacy and support your body in healing from chronic pain.
