Plan Ahead for Pain Management

I’m planning on going to a comedy club tonight. There are two potential risks I take in doing so:comedy

  1. There will be a line, and I will have to stand around in one place for an extended time — which easily triggers pain.
  2. There will be a crowded seating situation, and I will be subject to tossling and bumping — which can leave me in pain for hours, days, or weeks.

So what I did was call the venue ahead of time, explain my situation in detail (“I have chronic pain and hypersensitivity, here are the things that are challenging for me, how do you suggest we work around these challenges”), and plan a strategy with the representative who answered the phone.

He told me that there won’t be a long line (in case there is, I got his name and will ask him to shepherd me to the front of it), and he promised to set up a chair on the side, so that I wouldn’t have to deal with crowds or people sitting too close to me.
