There are people who will support you only after you have flexed your muscle, demonstrating your strength – so that they get the self-satisfaction of being part of a winning team.

There are people who will support you only after you are visibly broken or only after you actively have prostrated yourself before them – so that they get the self-satisfaction of lording over or “owning” you in addition to helping you.

And there are people who will support you simply because they can. Or because you asked. Or because they paid attention and noticed that you need help.
